Cybersecurity and Real Estate
According to a recent information session from National Association of REALTORS® Associate Counsel Jessica Edgerton, the only way business owners can be 100 percent protected from cybercrime is to shut down their computer, bury it in the backyard and set it on fire. However, as more and more real estate transactions take place online and through email, it has become even more important for real estate professionals to implement best practices to stay cybersecure. NAR recommends that real estate professionals always take preventative measures, especially when it comes to wiring transactions, such as communicating with clients before a transaction about the possible dangers of wiring funds, to call the intended recipients of wired funds before sending them and to always independently verify phone numbers associated with a wiring transaction. In addition, something as simple as securing accounts with strong passwords can help keep hackers at bay; never use ‘password’ as a password! Most Home Buyers Use Real Estate Agents
Buying a home is one of the most significant financial transactions a person will make in his or her lifetime, and according to a new report from the National Association of REALTORS®, 87 percent of all buyers will use a real estate agent to help navigate the transaction. More than half of the home buyers surveyed in the report (52 percent) said want they wanted most from their agent was having help finding the right home. When it comes to finding an agent, most buyers (42 percent) used an agent via a referral from a friend, neighbor or relative, and seven in 10 buyers only interviewed one agent before hiring someone. Do You Want a Career in Real Estate?
According to a new report from the National Association of REALTORS®, 64 percent of REALTORS® say that the flexible hours are the most attractive part of being a real estate agent, followed by interest in the industry (at 64 percent) and working with people (at 54 percent). The report also asked REALTORS® what skills are necessary to succeed in residential real estate; they named people skills, self-motivation and negotiation skills as the top three most important traits and talents.
